July 25, 2011, Hemel Hempstead. Gyron today announced that it had commenced work to bring online an additional datacentre in Hemel Hempstead, in the South East of England. Conveniently located close to the M1 and M25 motorways encircling London, the new facility is set within a secure private 170,000 sq ft compound with 66,000 sq ft of datacentre space and 22,000 sq ft of associated offices and disaster recovery areas. The site will feature dual redundant 8MW power supplies from two dedicated on-site HV substations, as well as diverse connections to multiple fibre optic connectivity providers.

State-of-the art security measures will be in place, including 24/7 on-site security staff, full digital CCTV coverage, Government certified vehicular impact protection, blast proof windows, and prison specification electrified perimeter fencing.

Gyron’s Managing Director, Robin Balen, also revealed that Gyron had already pre-signed agreements with customers for over 1MW of critical IT load. He added, “We’re delighted to announce that with our 3MW Centro facility at nearly 90% occupancy after less than two years operation, we’ve been able to bring forward our expansion plans. The new Maylands datacentre will give us capacity for up to an additional 1,200 racks to continue to support our customers’ most critical IT applications.”

Retail and wholesale colocation services will both be available at the facility, all with best-in-class resiliency and energy efficiency. The Maylands datacentre has been master planned to support 6 individual data suites, each with the capacity to host 1MW of customer IT load and supporting rack densities of up to 28kW and a PUE of between 1.2 and 1.3 with full 2N power resiliency.

Ben Miller, Operations Director, continued, “Like our Centro facility, we are aiming to source all of the energy requirements for the Maylands datacentre from 100% green renewable sources. We will also be extending our existing ISO 14001 accreditation to cover the new facility, and will be implementing the best practices recommended by The Green Grid and the EU Code of Conduct for Datacentres.”

Gyron celebrates 10th birthday with £3.85m in new contract wins

Gyron, a leading UK  provider of specialist datacentre services, has celebrated it’s 10th birthday in style by announcing a large expansion at its state of the art Centro datacentre following contract wins in excess of £3.85m for services at the facility alone since first opening 9 months ago.

Robin Balen, Managing Director, comments:

The next phase of expansion at the Centro datacentre is an exciting time for Gyron. Our philosophy has always been that customers will respond enthusiastically when presented with a state of the art datacentre, a flexible approach, fantastic customer service and great value for money, and we’ve been bowled over by the volume of positive feedback about our facility from both new and existing customers. The contract figures speak for themselves, especially given the challenging wider economic conditions.

The fit out works will add an additional 360kW of IT capacity within the datacentre at Hemel Hempstead, over 85% of which has already been contracted for. Work on the expansion space is due to complete on the 1st of June, exactly 1 year after the Centro facility first opened its doors to customer equipment.

Ben Miller, Operations Director, continues:

Our approach from day one when designing the Centro facility was to ensure that the datacentre infrastructure was completely modular. This has allowed us to rapidly expand operations at the site to meet unprecedented demand for our services, and also increase the specification of our services when needed to suit specific customer requirements. This next phase is no exception and we look forward to delivering this additional capacity shortly.

State of the art power and cooling systems have been specified for the expansion area, along with a custom hot-aisle containment system designed in-house, allowing a best-in-class target Power usage Effectiveness (PuE) of between 1.3 and 1.4, whilst simultaneously providing enhanced 2N redundancy on the power infrastructure.

For further details on this and future expansion space at the Centro facility, please contact the Gyron sales team.

Press release: Gyron Internet upgrades core network with Imtech and Juniper

Gyron is featured in this quarter’s edition of the Imtech Telecom Global newsletter. The article details our use of Juniper network equipment in our upgraded core network, and also describes our expansion at our new Centro datacentre facility.

You can download the whole newsletter in PDF form here (we’re on page 6), or you can read below for the article:

To keep up with increasing demand for its co-location, managed hosting and connectivity services, Gyron Internet Ltd has chosen Imtech Telecom Global and partner Juniper Networks to upgrade its core network. The new equipment for its state-of-the-art hosting site in London Docklands will allow Gyron to maintain the highest possible levels of service for its customers as the company expands nationally.

Gyron, established 8 years ago, has become a key player at the Docklands London Hosting Centre, with over 5,000sq ft of high specification hosting space, and is now expanding its high speed fibre network outside of the M25 to a new datacentre in Hemel Hempstead. Initially with a handful of customers and five racks, Gyron’s customer base has now grown to over a hundred customers. These include government departments, IT consultancies, global enterprises, banks, recruitment agencies and internet companies; all serviced by over 160 racks of equipment at Gyron’s London data centre.

With its services in high demand, Gyron required a new strategy to sell additional high capacity services within their existing hosting space, whilst also being able to support significant expansion at their new site. Drawing on Imtech’s established consultancy and support services, Gyron has chosen to upgrade its core London network with two additional Juniper MX240s, and EX-series Ethernet switches. The solution uses JUNOS software and neatly integrates routing, switching and security across Gyron’s high-performance network infrastructure.

Gyron are installing and integrating the new routers to function as a redundant pair, handling all BGP traffic on the network .

Robin Balen, Director for Gyron, stated: “Imtech has always provided a wealth of knowledge and support for our chosen Juniper platforms. Following their advice, we have selected the MX240 routers for our London site where space is at an absolute premium; whilst the MX 960 platform gives us excellent expansion potential at our new datacentre in Hemel Hempstead. I have been impressed with the Imtech’s technical ability and capabilities in implementing Juniper technologies and its proven track record in successful network deployments, both to the smaller ISPs and larger global carriers.“ Gyron are also undertaking upgrades to its 300gbps DWDM fibre ring which now connects its London Docklands hosting site and its new data centre which will house over 400 racks when it opens in mid-2009.

James Morgan, MD Imtech Telecom Global, said “it is good to see UK entrepreneurs such as the Gyron team achieving so much in such a short time; undoubtedly the Juniper platforms coupled with the easy adoption of JUNOS have helped to enable this growth and we welcome working with forward thinking innovative organisations such as Gyron.”
