We’re pleased to announce that after extensive planning, we will shortly commence work on upgrading our core network infrastructure.
We expect to start work on the network upgrades in mid-October, and will be installing two new core routers, utilizing the Juniper MX routing platform. The MX 240 routers give us 240gbps of routing capacity in a compact chassis, along with redundant switching control boards and power supplies. We will be initially deploying these with 40×1GE SFP ports, leaving plenty of capacity for future upgrades, including 10GB port options.

These MX 240 routers will function as a redundant pair, handling all BGP traffic on our network. In addition to these new routers, we are replacing our existing core switches with new Juniper EX switches. These EX4200 switches support 48×1GE and 2×10GE ports in a 1U chassis, with redundant power supplies, and full stacking capabilities.

We will also be making upgrades to our metro dark fibre ring and DWDM equipment in order to prepare for integration with our new national fibre loop which will connect to our new datacenter site.
Overseeing the upgrade work will be our full time Network Architect, who joined our management team in July this year. We have always strongly believed in encouraging growth by continually investing in our hosting and network infrastructure. This latest project, with a value exceeding £200,000, continues this tradition, and ensures that we keep ahead of our customers’ high capacity network requirements.
We’re pleased to announce that due to our continued expansion, and following customer feedback, we have introduced a new phone system at Gyron. The new system has 30 concurrent channels available via ISDN to ensure that calls can always be connected even during times of high call volume.
Unfortunately, this change has required that we migrate to new telephone numbers. We now have a dedicated number, available 24/7, for existing customers with support requests. There is a separate number, available during office hours, for all other queries (such as sales, billing, etc).
Please update your records accordingly:
For 24/7 support calls 0845 888 6999 (24/7)
For any other queries 0845 888 6900 (Mon to Fri, 9AM to 5PM)
Fax 0845 888 6910
To dial from outside the UK, drop the leading 0, and dial +44.
Our old numbers, including any old direct dial numbers, will cease to work on August 1st 2008.
Last weekend, we completed a server and infrastructure relocation project for Titan Internet, an existing colocation customer who has taken a significant amount of expansion space in our new colocation suite in the LHC.
Titan produced this time-lapse video taken from their old colocation site, which they’ve kindly let us post here:
Between 11PM Friday and 6AM Saturday, and 11PM Saturday and 6AM Sunday we relocated 300 servers and dozens of switches, routers and firewalls from their existing colocation space to our new suite. Servers were moved by own our team of 10 highly trained engineers, plus 3 Titan staff, and were moved in batches to ensure that no individual server was off-line for more than 4 hours.
We’re pleased to announce that the average period of downtime per server throughout the move was 2 hours, and the move was completed without a single instance of hardware failure.
If you would like more information on our range of managed datacenter services, including infrastructure relocation projects, please contact our sales team!
We previously announced that we were adding an additional 45 rack suite to our existing space at the LHC.

The M&E fit-out has now been completed on-schedule by our contractors and the area is now ready for our engineers to install the APC racks, power bars, overhead cable trays, fibre interconnects and structured cabling which will turn the area in to usable space for our customers.

I’ll upload a few more pictures once the rack fit-out is complete.
We recently fitted out around 2,200 sq ft of new datacenter space at the London Hosting Center.
After the core plant equipment (e.g. air conditioning down-flow units, FM200 fire suppression etc) was installed, the IP CCTV cameras went up and we were able to grab images to make the following time-lapse movie showing all 68 APC NetShelter enclosures being installed over a 4 day period:
Check out September’s issue of Storage Magazine for a profile on Gyron:
According to Gyron director Robin Balen… “Not many companies do what we do. There are smaller companies, but they tend not to have the level of investment in 24-hour staffing and support. Others are huge – £100 million-plus companies where customers are just another CRM number.
“We believe we strike the right balance between investment in leading-edge technology and good, old-fashioned, personal service. Our customer base is relatively small, but very active, and their expectations of both our service level and our technology are extremely high.”
